When I arrived at the front door of the Sacramento County Animal Shelter yesterday, there are signs posted saying the Pet Pantry is out of dry dog food. In my opinion this is not good because the program does two important things.
The first is it allows families that are in a financial hardship to be able to receive a free month’s worth of dry dog food.
The second is it prevents families from surrendering their dogs to the shelter because they cannot afford to feed them any longer.
The solution is not long term, but in the interim it assists families to get through these difficult financial economic times and to be able to keep their beloved pet children in their home.
Yesterday I purchased dry dog food at Costco and will be dropping it off at the shelter today.
Even if you have a bag of dog food that your dog did not like, it will gladly be accepted.
If you are able to make a donation of dry dog food, it can be dropped off at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter, located at 3839 Bradshaw Road in Sacramento. The shelter is open Wednesday through Friday from 12:30pm to 5:30pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:30pm.
If you would like to make a donation but are unable to get to the shelter during open hours, please contact me and I will be more than happy to assist you. My telephone number is (916) 747-6732, or you can e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
