This is continuous discussion in the animal rescue community that occurs at the start of the spring time. This weekend we are expected to get heat in the triple digits in the Sacramento Valley. So what can you do if you see a pet in a hot car?
According to the article “Legal Ways to Save Pets Left in Hot Cars” by Carol Bryant, you have the following three options:
1. Try to locate the pet parent.
2. Politely inform the pet parent about the dangers of leaving their pet in a hot car, and give them a copy of this flyer:
Pets in Hot Cars Flyer: http://images.akc.org/pdf/GDFLY1.pdf
3. Call 9-1-1.
It’s not legal to break the window of a car and rescue a pet, but it’s been known to happen.
Stay cool this weekend!
